Ally & Skyliar’s Elegant New Year’s Eve Wedding

September 7, 2017
When Ally from Menasha first saw Skyliar from Appleton at work, she “didn’t know who he was, but prayed to God right then and there to let me find someone like him.” Ally eventually worked up the courage to ask Skyliar to come bowling with a group of coworkers. That night, the two hit it off and the rest is history. Seven years later, Skyliar had already bought the ring when he and Ally talked about wanting to get married. “After trying to find the best way to propose, I decided it was more important to propose than to find the perfect way,” he says. One evening, Skyliar went out to pick up dinner, came back, knocked on the apartment door, hid from the peep hole, and got down on one knee when Ally answered the door.

The couple planned an elegant, classy New Year’s Eve wedding, tying in winter elements and plenty of bling. Ally attended a handful of bridal shows in Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Oshkosh. “These are where I got the majority of my vendors and lots of great ideas!” She found her Maggie Sottero dress at Bridal Elegance in Kaukauna.

The ceremony took place at New Hope Lutheran Church in Neenah. “The sermon Pastor Jeff put together of Ephesians 5 was our favorite part. What made the service unique was our unity cross ceremony. It explained why God made man and woman for each other, and how the Holy Spirit, Jesus, and The Father hold us together. The decorative cross we built during this ceremony is now displayed in our home.”

After the bride and groom said “I do,” Prestige Limousine picked up the bridal party, with the Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel and Convention Center in Oshkosh as the reception destination for an unforgettable New Year’s Eve. “Miranda Gorges at the Best Western Premier Hotel was so helpful with all of our questions and very accommodating when it came to creating the dinner menu,” Ally says. “She also let me and my friends and family come see the ballroom a number of times so I could visualize everything.”

Planning the reception décor was one of Ally’s favorite things she did for her wedding. “The whole ambiance was amazing — it looked like it could have been a wedding in a movie! We rented table linens, centerpieces, table décor, a card box, uplighting, a grand arch, and planters from Sweet N Easy Events in Appleton. They even included set-up and take-down services. Travis and his team at Sweet N Easy made everything look great together; it all flowed, matched, and was very elegant.”
Travis from Sweet N Easy Events also acted as Ally and Skyliar’s day-of coordinator. “Travis was great to work with; he didn’t even mind working through all the decorations almost a year in advance,” Ally says. “Even though Travis was only hired for the day-of, he also gave me great advice for other parts of my wedding, such as etiquette on a gift-opening brunch, rehearsal dinner, and more.”
The hotel catered a delicious buffet dinner of chicken, beef tips, noodles, salad, fingerling potatoes, green beans, and carrots. “We chose a buffet so people could have free reign on choices and portions. We received lots of compliments on the dinner! For drinks, we had beer and wine during cocktail hour, then just beer after dinner.” At 10:30, the hotel brought out pizza for the guests — “it was gone in minutes!”
Skyliar and Ally say the most unique moment of their day was crashing another wedding with their guests: “Our day-of coordinator Travis, our DJ, and our photographer worked together to get it okayed with the wedding across the street to have our wedding guests do the locomotion train over the skywalk, through the conference center, and around the other wedding’s dance floor — just for the heck of it. It was something totally different and really exciting! The guests at both weddings had fun playing along.” As midnight approached, they counted down the seconds, toasted champagne, and shot off streamers. “Then we went outside and took great pictures with our guests and sparklers.” Cheers to a new year and the newlyweds!
