Katie from Clintonville and Tyler from Marion met in 2011 through Katie’s brother, Mitchell. It was Mitchell’s girlfriend’s 21st birthday, and Katie joined them for a night of celebrating with friends — Tyler among them. “My brother told me earlier in the evening that his friend Tyler was probably going to hit on me that night,” she laughs. “Behold, he did, and we hit it off!” While dating, Tyler joined Appleton’s #1 country band: Nashville Pipeline. “Being the girlfriend of a lead singer has its challenges, but never negatively affected us. It solidified our relationship and we grew incredibly close — best friends and soul mates.”
Tyler proposed on New Year’s Eve in 2015, while the two were in Waupaca enjoying a seven-course dinner at a restaurant where Tyler’s uncle is Head Chef. During the meal, Tyler kept professing his love for Katie. “I was thinking, ‘You’ve already told me; the wine must be getting to him now.’” At the 6th course, Tyler finally stood up, dropped to one knee, and proposed. “There was a group of six in the same room as us,” Katie says. “I didn’t reply right away, and heard one lady say ‘Did she say yes?’ Tyler had to coach me, since I was in shock. He said, ‘Just take the ring and say yes!’ So I exclaimed ‘Yes!’ and the diners all clapped and cheered.”
The ceremony was held at St. Joseph’s in Appleton. In the bridal party were 10 bridesmaids and groomsmen, two ushers, and an adorable flower girl who didn’t make it up the aisle. Katie says the most memorable part of the ceremony was when their friends Kristian and Tom played and sang “Can’t Help Falling In Love” during the lighting of the unity candle. “They absolutely killed their unique version of the song. It was incredible.”

Then the party moved to the Radisson Paper Valley for dinner and dancing. “Liz at the Radisson is awesome, has tons of experience, and allowed us to put a lot of trust in her. She gave us our dream day!” The style of the reception was romantic-bohemian, natural, and cozy. “To enter, guests walked through an ivory-draped doorway. To the right was a sewing table with our guest book and a gold-framed mirror reading ‘Please sign our guest book’ set on an easel. There was a beautiful old buffet housing our semi-naked cakes, followed by a trunk for cards draped with cedar boughs, florals, candles, and lanterns. Our head table had a handmade wooden backdrop with more cedar boughs, and Tyler and I sat on an antique cranberry settee. So romantic!”

Katie especially loved assembling her own floral centerpieces and had a couple of talented graphic designer friends help with other unique touches. One of the bridesmaids designed a series of laser-engraved wooden magnets as party favors for guests, including the bride and groom’s initials, last name, wedding date, and a thank-you. “I had planned to have magnets for guests for years,” Katie says. “These topped my expectations.” Another friend created a Snapchat filter for guests to use throughout the night. “It cost a mere $22 and added such a fun social media touch!”

Dinner was catered by the Radisson, with cocktail hour featuring pretzels and beer. There were three options for dinner: chicken with wild mushrooms in a supreme sauce, roasted sirloin rubbed with Dijon mustard and a secret blend of spices, and vegetarian lasagna with Alfredo sauce. The two meat dishes were served with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh veggies, and all entrees came with a garden salad, dinner rolls, coffee, and tea. At the end of the night, Tyler and Katie treated their guests to a pizza buffet.
“After our delightful meal, we had some time for mingling before the most amazing part of the night — our first dance.” Tyler sang and recorded “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur as their first dance song. “It truly captures our relationship and love for one another. It was a very special and magical moment hearing the words sang from my talented husband, as I’m his number one supporter and fan.” Katie and Tyler also loved their father/daughter and mother/son dances. “We cannot thank our parents enough for helping make our day so special, and for raising us with love that we will someday share with our children.”
